WordPress isn’t difficult to use but it can be a bit overwhelming when you aren’t used to it. It doesn’t take long to become familiar with the basics, but to start with you may find yourself wondering what the difference is between a post and a page, and what on earth a widget is for.
There are plenty of online resources to help you learn about WordPress, including the WordPress Codex. Here are a few more suggestions of websites with a structured approach to teaching the essential things that a newcomer needs to know to enable them to update their WordPress website. Just click on the links below to access the tutorials.
- Easy WP Guide is a written manual for WordPress beginners that can be downloaded or viewed online. It includes screen prints and detailed descriptions of the various options available on each screen.
- If you find it easier to follow a video, rather than written instructions, then you may prefer the WordPress 101 Video Tutorials which can also be installed as a plugin. Note that the first few tutorials are free, then there are further ones that you need to pay for but they are not terribly expensive (tip: check the footer of the WP101 website as there may be a coupon code).
- These same WP101 tutorials are also available for free if you register with WP Beginner – see https://videos.wpbeginner.com/courses/wordpress-101/ (Their blog post “Welcome WP101 to the WPBeginner Family of Products” explains why this is so.)
- Learn WordPress has a number of courses, including one for the Beginner WordPress User.
- SolidWP also have some free video tutorials.
- For GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks users, I recommend Mike Oliver’s Website Builders Collective.
